Invitation

Metabolomics is an emerging research field concerned with the comprehensive characterization of the small molecule metabolites in biological systems. It is intended to provide an overview of the metabolic status and biochemical events associated with a cellular or biological system, the Metabolome. Closely associated to Metabolomics is the concept of Systems Biology having the aim to integrate transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data. The symposium uses a wide definition of metabolomics as it will also include Metabonomics as for example drug metabolism. Metabolomics can be studied by several techniques, but the major technique used is again mass spectrometry. The Swedish Society for Mass Spectrometry will now devote its Annual Symposium at the Nobel Forum at The Karolinska Institutet to the use of Mass Spectrometry in Metabolomics. This Symposia will gather international and national leading scientist together with presentation of vendors in an informal format.
